How it works

The mechanism in three steps, and where you can intervene.

🩸

Trigger

Genetic predisposition + environmental factors (infections, stress, toxins)

🔄

Mechanism

Breakdown of immune tolerance → production of autoantibodies and T cells against self tissues

💡

Symptom

Chronic inflammation, organ damage (joints, thyroid gland, skin, etc.)

Find your likely cause in 2 minutes

Answer 3 questions to see likely causes and a baseline lab list.

How long has this been going on?

Is there marked fatigue?

Is stress high?

Likely causes

  • системные причины и дефицитные состояния
  • стресс-ассоциированные факторы

What to check

  • C-reactive protein (CRP)
  • Antinuclear antibodies (ANA)
  • Rheumatoid factor (RF)
  • Thyroid peroxidase (TPO)

Short answer

If you suspect an autoimmune disease, it is important to get tested for markers of inflammation and autoantibodies, keep a diary of symptoms, and contact a rheumatologist or immunologist for a comprehensive diagnosis.

Your action plan

  1. Сдать базовые анализы: C-reactive protein (CRP), Antinuclear antibodies (ANA), Rheumatoid factor (RF), Thyroid peroxidase (TPO)
  2. Зафиксировать стартовые фото и симптомы в одном месте
  3. Через 8 недель сравнить динамику и скорректировать план с врачом

What lab tests to order

A baseline panel for the most common causes.

C-reactive protein (CRP)

CRP

Marker of systemic inflammation in autoimmune processes

Antinuclear antibodies (ANA)

A.N.A.

Screening for systemic lupus erythematosus and other autoimmune diseases

Rheumatoid factor (RF)

RF

Diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren's syndrome

Thyroid peroxidase (TPO)

TPO

Marker of autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's disease)

Complete blood count (CBC)

CBC

Assessment of inflammatory changes (ESR, leukocytes)

Detailed biomarker review

Подробно

Causes and risk factors

Autoimmune diseases develop through a combination of genetic predisposition and provoking factors. Triggers include previous viral infections (for example, Epstein-Barr virus), chronic stress, exposure to toxins (smoking, heavy metals), and hormonal changes. Women get sick 3 times more often than men, which is due to the influence of estrogen on the immune response.

What tests should I take?

To diagnose autoimmune diseases, tests for specific autoantibodies (ANA, RF, anti-TPO), inflammatory markers (CRP, ESR), as well as instrumental methods (ultrasound of affected organs) are used. In Axioris, you can upload the results of these tests, track the dynamics of indicators and receive an AI interpretation in the context of your symptoms. It is especially important to monitor CRP and ESR - their increase often correlates with disease activity.

When to see a doctor

Consultation with a rheumatologist or immunologist is necessary for persistent symptoms: morning joint stiffness for more than 30 minutes, unexplained rash on the face (butterfly-type), dry eyes and mouth, sudden weight fluctuations, chronic fatigue. The doctor will prescribe an in-depth examination and select therapy (immunosuppressants, biological drugs).

Common mistakes

1) Self-diagnosis based on individual symptoms - they are nonspecific. 2) Ignoring low-grade fever (37.1–37.5°C) is a common sign of autoimmune inflammation. 3) Premature refusal of therapy when the condition improves. 4) Underestimation of the importance of vitamin D control - its deficiency aggravates autoimmune reactions.

Частые вопросы

Can an autoimmune disease be cured?

A complete cure is not yet possible, but modern therapy makes it possible to achieve long-term remission. The drugs suppress the pathological activity of the immune system and prevent organ damage.

Which test is the most accurate for diagnosis?

There is no universal marker—diagnosis is complex. The ANA test is sensitive for systemic diseases, but requires confirmation with specific antibodies (eg, anti-dsDNA for lupus).

Does nutrition affect the course of the disease?

Yes. A Mediterranean diet with omega-3s (fish, flaxseed oil) reduces inflammation. For celiac disease, a gluten-free diet is required. Axioris has a food response tracker to identify individual triggers.

Are autoimmune diseases inherited?

The risk is increased, but not 100%. If a parent has rheumatoid arthritis, the child has about a 5% chance of developing rheumatoid arthritis. What is more important is the combination of genes and environmental factors.

How often do you need to get tested during remission?

At least once every 6 months - CRP, CBC and profile markers (for example, TSH for Hashimoto's). In Axioris, you can set reminders for follow-up tests and save all results in one place.
